Case Study

A Developing Global Crisis

Coral reefs generate $2.7 trillion annually. They’re home to 25% of all marine life and provide coastal protection, food security and economic opportunities for one billion people around the world. However, scientists predict that 90% of coral reefs could vanish by 2050 without intervention, due to climate change, pollution, and other human impacts.

Coral Vita’s Game-Changing Solution

Founded in 2015 by Sam Teicher and Gator Halpern, Coral Vita is actively addressing this urgent crisis by employing cutting-edge genetic technology to grow resilient coral and revitalize the world’s reef systems. Coral Vita’s mission is to restore and preserve the world’s coral reefs, which are vital to biodiversity and economic security.

Coral Vita’s farms grow coral in months, instead of the decades they take in nature. The company’s for-profit, for-good business model offers restoration as a service to clients who depend on healthy reefs. Beyond restoration, Coral Vita’s coral farms serve as community education hubs and eco-tourism attractions. The company also plays a crucial role in relocating coral away from coral development projects and creating adopt-a-coral sponsorships. Through these initiatives, Coral Vita enhances biodiversity and ecosystem resilience.

A Landmark Investment Led by Builders Vision

In 2018, Builders Vision saw tremendous potential and made an early investment in Coral Vita, recognizing immediately that its pioneering, scalable solution could create tangible global market value that extended well beyond their Bahamian home.

This year, Coral Vita will hit $8 million in revenue in a market segment that didn’t exist just a few years ago. Since beginning restoration operations in 2019, Coral Vita has grown over 100,000 corals across 52 species in The Bahamas, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates, leading to a doubling of fish populations and millions of dollars in revenue.

Builders Vision’s investment will significantly advance Coral Vita’s efforts to create a more resilient planet and future. Their exciting business model has seen strong organic growth and sales from a diverse customer base, making Coral Vita an attractive investment and proving the blue economy can be both profitable and impactful. That’s why Builders Vision led Coral Vita’s $8+ million Series A funding, enabling the company to become the first coral restoration company to reach this investment milestone.

“Coral Vita and Builders Vision share the understanding that ocean health and economic health go hand in hand. We are proud to lead the first successful Series A round for a business focused on coral restoration, and while this is still an early stage of growth, we are excited about the opportunity.” - Lukas Walton, Founder and CEO of Builders Vision
