Jack Markell had a distinguished career in public service from 1999 through 2025, serving as both a U.S. governor and ambassador, following an earlier career in the business world.

Jack was the U.S. Ambassador to the Italian Republic and the Republic of San Marino from August 2023 to January 2025. Prior to that, he served as the U.S. Ambassador to the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development from February 2022 to August 2023. He served as the White House Coordinator for Operation Allies Welcome from August 2021 to December 2021.

He previously served as the 73rd governor of Delaware from 2009 to 2017. Before he was elected Governor, Jack was the Delaware State Treasurer for 10 years from January 1999 to January 2009.

Jack has also held several private sector executive leadership roles in corporate development, investor relations, strategic management and consulting. Early in his career he worked at the First National Bank of Chicago, McKinsey & Co., Nextel and Comcast, before moving into public service in 1999.

Jack currently serves on the boards of Rush Street Interactive, Graham Holdings, Centegix and EverDriven, as well as the Future Standard Credit Income Fund. He is also on the board of Upstream USA. He previously served on several other boards, and he was chair of both the National Governors Association and the Democratic Governors Association.

He earned his undergraduate degree in economics and development studies from Brown University and an MBA from the University of Chicago.
